Costly Consternation...

otherwise known as "How to make a shoe sales man cringe".
My old, worn out shoes.
Be glad it's not a scratch and sniff.

I've known I needed new shoes for a while. When your feet hurt as much as when you wear them as when you don't - it's time for new shoes.

So tonight, I asked the Professor if we could stop by the running shoe store --
(a store that sells running shoes - not a shoe store that is actually running. Just wanted to clear that up - you know, just in case I read this later, when I've had more caffeine. Or, even if you read this later. With or without caffeine.)

I've had really good experiences by buying my shoes at this kind of shoe store. They know exactly what I need when I say, "My ankles roll and I have flat feet."
So we stopped at the one that was along our path - to see if they were open. They were. And in I went. I explained that I needed new shoes, my ankles roll and I have flat feet.

He, turned out it was the owner of the place (don't I feel special), knew exactly what I needed. He checked my old shoes for size and said, "These are Brooks Ascension number something something, that I promptly forgot. They haven't made these since before I opened my store (mumbled in shock) years ago."

I really think he'll be talking about me for days. He put my shoes in the box from whence my new *unsmelly* shoes came with a bit of awe. They either really stunk, or he was just freaked by the fact that they were so old.

I selected two new shoes. One for everyday, one for walking (which I need to get back to) and told him that my old ones would be lawn mowing shoes.

"Yeah, those would be good for that soft surface."
Which was probably a very nice way of saying, "Gooberhead."

Wow, and I thought I wore my shoes out. :)

I have to find a good shoe store. Not only do I have flat feet, they are WIDE. Not a little bit, but very very WIDE. We have been trying to buy shoes online, and 2 for 2 have gone back. UGH!

I hope you enjoy your new shoes as much as you did your old ones.

LOL!! That is like me. Hope you don't feel so alone now. I've had a pair of winter gloves for 13 yrs-still in good shape, actually. I keep my shoes forever-especially boots.
Glad you gave the shoe store owner something to be amazed and to talk about. LOL Holly

Another thing in common, flat feet and ankles that roll!

:) That's just funny. Are you sure he didn't want them for bronzing or something? Didn't want to place them in a glass case? ;)

LOL! You are a riot!

Every year my mom gives me money for my b'day and as of the last two or three years, I've been buying good running sneakers for myself with the money. (Well, as good as a huge sale with a coupon and $35 from my Mom will get me!!) With the working out at Curves that I'd been doing, I really felt the wearing of my shoes more distinctly.

This fall, I injured my foot right near my already huge and painful bunion. Now all I want to wear is my Aasics to comfort my tootsies. And they don't look so pretty with my "s*xy" jeans and sweaters. Course, neither does my big ole holiday bum. Or my Christmas cookie belly for that matter. But who's telling?!

My lawn mowing shoes are a good 10 years old. They are also incredibly comfortable and quite green now. I doubt I'll ever give them up.

Yup. A stroke. Last February.

ok, I wanna know how old the shoes are! I wear my shoes out, but don't get rid of them- then I buy a new pair, wear them out, look at my older pair, and sometimes think "Hey, those don't look so bad"- so then I start wearing THOSE ones again until I look down and go "yikes, these look awful, and go buy a new pair... if you have followed this so far, you will realize that there is still the set of the other shoes that I will return to when I have worn out the newest pair. Did that make any sense?? lol. I'm too mellow to go back to MAKE it make sense!
Alarming store managers with your old running shoes- that's quite an accomplishment, my friend. I'm proud of you.

I love athletic shoes. The feel of new bouncy soles. The shine of that cool swoosh. I am actually in recovery: Tennis Shoe Addiction. Mrs. Underdog once commented that I was like the Imelda Marcos of Running Shoes. (For those of you that don't remember: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,961002,00.html)

I thought my shoes were bad!! Every time I take them off another piece falls out of the insides.

I hope your new ones last just as long as the old ones did!
