Love wanes thin....

I have a confession to make.

I do not love the movie "The Princess Bride". I like it, certainly, but I don't think I will put my affection for the movie into the 'love' category.

I like the book. I like the movie - aspects of it amuse me and amuse me greatly.
But is it the best movie ever??

No.

I think part of my waning love is that I remember the 'ultimate of fandom' when other family members found out about the movie. Quoting it. Acting out scenes. Talking about how great it was.

I watch it with amusement, when I do watch it.
I enjoy it when I watch it....but I don't love the movie.

This is not the only movie this has happened with, either.

Star Wars.

Any of them.

Frankly - I hated "episode three" to begin with. But after my kids watched Episodes 1 and IV...I'm totally Star Wars'ed out.

The "Clone Wars" on Cartoon Network is probably the best thing for that franchise (in my opinion).

I'm sure there are others. Movies I've watched before and watch them again and they suddenly lose their charm. Through no fault of their own, mind you. It's probably just the timing of the movie.

One of my favorite movies is "The Magnificent Seven" - but I have to be in the right frame of mind to watch James Coburn die. So maybe if love for a movie wanes thin...maybe it can wax thick again.

I don't know, really.

Do you want to know what started this??
A picture of "Christmas in Connecticut" with Barbara Stanwick. I haven't seen that movie in a very long time -- and would never have considered it one that I would look at and say "Hey, I want to watch that."

But for some reason, I do...and that started me thinking ...and this ramble of a blog post is the result.

I saw Christmas in Connecticut for my very first time last year. It's a charmer! I'm a fan of any movie that can make me laugh, and of course I have a special place in my heart for "The Princess Bride." I do understand your feelings though. Just as certain books resonate with us at certain times, the same is true of movies.

I happened to read the Philosophy of Star Wars before seeing Episode Three, so I think I got more out of it than the average viewer. Very gory, but an excellent movie from the standpoint of the classic epic. Plus if you watch them all in order from Episode one to six, you get a happy ending. :o)

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

ha ha. I love Princess Bride! I start laughing even before the lines. But I do get why some folk don't. I get in moods of things i could watch again and again.

As for Star Wars - well those were the movies i was born into i guess. But i can't bother with episodes 1-3. Call me old school, but i like 4-6 just fine on their own - and i still get the happy ending.

There were actually only a couple of scenes where I really thought Princess Bride was fantastic...my husband laughs every time at Magic Max, and I don't get it...and mawwrage got old, eventually.

Your rambles are always interesting! :O)

I'm afraid to say that Princess Bride is not my favorite. I visualize tar and feathers if I think of saying it in public.
