I know it's a line from a Rogers & Hart song, too. "I'm a sentimental sap,that's all...."
Today just proved it. We were studying about George Washington in our history lesson. We talked about Paul Revere briefly during our reading and I decided to get the "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" from the library.
I was reading it and actually got choked up. I couldn't believe it. I was a bit shocked at myself.
Then at the back of the book was this fantastic little history lesson about the Revere's ride and capture and the fights at Concord & Lexington.
I had requested a movie from the American Heroes set about George Washington. It was a well done animation segment about small bits of Washington's career. I got a bit choked up again telling the kids that Valley Forge was not a pleasant place. I got got choked up when they showed Washington kneeling in the snow and praying...and showed him surviving a canon blast. God had protected him and it was just really fun to watch and share with the kids.
Then G-man started shouting, "Yay! George Washington!!!"
and that just did me in.
I'm a sentimental sap.
I love my country. I love the heritage we have - and I hate to think that so many kids don't realize and see God's hand on the start of the country. And the blessings we have now.

I do the same thing!
I never knew I felt so strongly about history (particularly American history) until we started homeschooling.
There are times when I cannot get through a lesson without taking a break to collect myself. lol
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. :-)
I'm right there with you! You should have seen me reading The Hiding Place out loud. At some points, there were more tears than words.

I was born and raised near Valley Forge, Brandywine, Philly... So I grew up with a strong sense of being an American. Gee, I even was around to celebrate the bicentenial in 1976! I'm a direct decendant of a signer of the Declaration of Independence furthering my feelings about American history.
You are so right that God blessed this country! A point too many Americans don't seem to get.

I am right there with you. I cry about all that historical stuff. I could hardly stand being at Gettysburg when I was pregnant - hormones and sappy history - The Boss just did not know what to do with me! I still cry when I hear the Star Spangled Banner - even at the SuperBowl and stuff. Ugh.
What a great chance you have to impart that to the kiddoes - I agree with B&B - You rock! :)
I do those same kind of things. I can cry at the drop of a hat. My kids look at me sometimes with the weirdest looks.
